چکیده

Abstract Spontaneous locking of the phase a coherent phonon source to an external reference is demonstrated in deeply sideband-unresolved optomechanical system. The high-amplitude mechanical oscillations are driven by anharmonic modulation radiation pressure force that result from absorption-mediated free-carrier/temperature limit cycle, i.e., self-pulsing. Synchronization observed when pump laser driving oscillator self-sustained state modulated radiofrequency tone. We employ pump-probe detection scheme based on independent optical cavity observe only dynamics. lock range oscillation frequency, Arnold tongue, experimentally determined over strengths, evidencing possibility tune frequency for up 350 kHz. stability evaluated via its noise, with maximum achieved suppression 44 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset 100 MHz resonator. Introducing weak excitation reveals as further knob trigger, control and stabilize dynamical solutions self-pulsing oscillators, thus enhancing their potential acoustic wave sources single-layer silicon platform.

Injection locking of a trapped-ion phonon laser.

We report on injection locking of optically excited mechanical oscillations of a single, trapped ion. The injection locking dynamics are studied by analyzing the oscillator spectrum with a spatially selective Fourier transform technique and the oscillator phase with stroboscopic imaging. In both cases we find excellent agreement with theory inside and outside the locking range. We attain inject...

Proposal for an optomechanical traveling wave phonon–photon translator

In this paper, we describe a general optomechanical system for converting photons to phonons in an efficient and reversible manner. We analyze classically and quantum mechanically the conversion process and proceed to a more concrete description of a phonon–photon translator (PPT) formed from coupled photonic and phononic crystal planar circuits. The application of the PPT to RF-microwave photo...

A self-stabilized coherent phonon source driven by optical forces

We report a novel injection scheme that allows for "phonon lasing" in a one-dimensional opto-mechanical photonic crystal, in a sideband unresolved regime and with cooperativity values as low as 10(-2). It extracts energy from a cw infrared laser source and is based on the triggering of a thermo-optical/free-carrier-dispersion self-pulsing limit-cycle, which anharmonically modulates the radiatio...

Coherent phonon excitation in bismuth

Ultrafast time-resolved reflectivity of a bismuth thin film evaporated on a silicon substrate is measured to investigate coherent phonons in bismuth. The reflectivity result is analyzed by a linear chirp approximation to obtain the time dependent frequencies of coherent phonons. Not only the optical modes are detected, which are generated by a combination of impulsive stimulated Raman scatterin...

Coherent quantum-noise cancellation for optomechanical sensors.

Using a flow chart representation of quantum optomechanical dynamics, we design coherent quantum-noise-cancellation schemes that can eliminate the backaction noise induced by radiation pressure at all frequencies and thus overcome the standard quantum limit of force sensing. The proposed schemes can be regarded as novel examples of coherent feedforward quantum control.
